On May 16th I caught a diverse group of acts at The Mercury Lounge in New York City.
First up was Stacked Like Pancakes, a ska band out of Boston who was playing NYC for the first tim ever. They really got the crowd moving playing some covers of new and classic song like Twenty One Pilots’ “Stressed Out” and Blink 182’s “Dammit” and as they said “Letting there balls hang out and I hope my mother don’t hear this, they played their own song,” Shit Fuck Damn It Damn It” and got the crowd singing and moshing.
Next to take the stage was Alexa Wilding. Playing songs from her new EP Wolves that comes out on July 8th, Alexa is a singer/song writer out of New York who sounds like Alanis Morissette with a cosmic acoustic twist. One of her new songs “Danger” give you a feel of a old western movie as the cowboy rides off in to the sunset.
After her was SHAED and Electric pop group who has the Sound Of Lights that meets the vocal style of Ellie Goulding.
Finally the last act of the night was Domino Kirke. Another Artist out of New York. she is more on the lines of pop rock. All her songs are filled with emotion and it really shows when she is up there performing. Although I am not as familiar with this kind of music, all of the artists on the line up are great and I hope to see them grow as the future comes.
